Ozanam House Cancer Patient Accommodation

Ozanam House Cancer Patient Summer Wing

Accommodation for patients receiving radiotherapy treatment for cancer at Palmerston North Hospital. Many are often treated as out-patients. Many of our cancer patients travel from throughout the lower half of the North Island — from Gisborne to Taranaki. Ozanam House was established to provide a home for cancer patients and their carer while receiving treatment in Palmerston North.

Unique In Concept

Unique in concept, Ozanam House has something in common with motels and hotels, but can best be compared with a residential club without staff. Housework and cooking, as well as recreation, are often shared by mutual consent as guests come and go. This has led to a popular description of Ozanam House as "A home away from home".

Ozanam House Trust New Development

Ozanam House at St. Mary's opened the doors on two new homes for travelling cancer patients in November 2009. The homes are in Newhaven Place which is almost opposite the Ruahine Street entrance to Palmerston North Hospital, a short walk from the radiotherapy department.

The first stage of this project comprises two six bedroom houses, and an existing home (relocated along Newhaven Place to make way for the grand entrance).
